Bob Jones: A Letterwinner’s Life of Service, Leadership, and Legacy

Longtime K Club secretary and former Kentucky kicker Bob Jones has spent a lifetime building others up—on the field, in the classroom, and now in the skies.

Bob Jones walked onto the Kentucky football program as a freshman kicker with no fanfare and zero guarantees. He left as a four‑year letterwinner, a three‑year varsity contributor, and the owner of six school records.

From 1968 to 1971, Jones played under head coaches Charlie Bradshaw and John Ray, earning his spot through relentless work. His name still dots the UK record book:

  • Most consecutive extra points made – 17

  • Most field goals made in a single game – 3

  • Longest field goal made – 46 yards

  • Highest field goal percentage (season)

  • Most extra points made (season)

  • Most extra points made (career)

Those numbers tell one story. But the rest of Bob’s life tells a better one.

From the Field to the Front of the Classroom

After his playing days ended, Bob poured his leadership into education. He spent 20 years as a high school football coach, shaping young athletes the way he had been shaped. He then moved into administration, serving as both a middle school and high school principal while guiding students and staff with the same steady hand he once used to split the uprights.

A Second Act in the Skies

These days, Bob can be found restoring fabric aircraft—a meticulous craft that requires patience, precision, and passion. It’s a fitting hobby for a man who once held his breath on 46‑yard field goals.

A Pillar of the K Club

Bob has served on the Kentucky K Club Board since 2019 and currently holds the role of Secretary. His institutional knowledge, steady presence, and deep love for Kentucky Letterwinners have made him an invaluable part of the organization.

Whether he’s helping guide the K Club, mentoring young coaches, running a school, or bringing a vintage airplane back to life, Bob Jones does one thing consistently: he serves.

Thank you, Bob, for a lifetime of leadership—and for never missing the important kicks. 💙
