Robin Ewing Bodem: Kentucky Gymnastics’ Trailblazing Star

A Pioneer for UK Gymnastics

Robin Ewing Bodem (1994–97) emerged as one of Kentucky’s most accomplished gymnasts, helping elevate the program to new heights during a transformative era. Her legacy includes:

  • Second-ever UK gymnast to earn All-America honors (1996, Second Team)

  • Third Wildcat to individually qualify for NCAA Nationals

  • Key leader on UK’s record-setting 1996 squad:

    • Program’s first top-four finish at SEC Championships (matched only in 2018 & 2021)

    • NCAA Regionals 3rd-place finish (surpassed only by 2018 & 2023 teams)

Why She Stands Out

Broke barriers – Paved the way for future UK gymnasts in national competition
Team success – Anchored squads that set benchmarks still relevant today
Technical excellence – Balanced power and precision in all-around competition

Legacy

Though UK gymnastics has reached new peaks in recent years, Bodem’s mid-90s breakthroughs remain foundational to the program’s identity. Her achievements proved Kentucky could compete with the SEC’s best. This belief now fuels the Wildcats’ continued ascent.
